During the holiday season of 2001, we started a tradition of making "Gingerbread Houses" as part of the holiday activities. After this year's houses, we will have made almost 250 of them. We thought it might be fun (and instructive, if you want to try it at home) to see how we actually make the houses.

First, we need to cut Graham crackers into the "square" parts...

...LOTS of "square" parts. (You will need six per house.)

Apply some frosting along one edge...

...and make a lot of roofs and walls.

Take two wall sets and apply some frosting.
(We used a one gallon storage bag, with a small cut in one corner, for our frosting applicator.)

Hold them together to make the house. Make sure every house has a roof.

Now you have the houses and roofs.

Some frosting along two edges of the house...

...add a roof and you have a "gingerbread" house just waiting to be decorated.

In our case, we have a gingerbread house sub-division.

Here we pack them up to take them to school.
(Yes, some of them are upside down - they travel better that way!)

Spend a morning with your children decorating them...

...and have both a wonderful time and a fun centerpiece.
